چکیده

Europium isotopic abundance fractions are reported for the very metal-poor, neutron-capture-rich giant stars CS 22892-052, HD 115444, and BD +17◦3248. The abundance fractions, derived from analysis of several strong Eu II lines appearing in high-resolution spectra of these stars, are in excellent agreement with each other and with their values in the Solar System: fr(Eu)≃ fr(Eu) ≃ 0.5. Detailed abundance studies of very metal-poor stars have previously shown that the total elemental abundances of stable atoms with atomic numbers z ≥ 56 typically match very closely those of a scaled solar-system r-process abundance distribution. The present results for the first time extend this agreement to the isotopic level. EUROPIUM ISOTOPE RATIOS IN s-PROCESS ELEMENT–ENHANCED METAL-POOR STARS: A NEW PROBE OF THE Sm BRANCHING

We report on the first measurement of the Eu isotope fractions (Eu and Eu) in s-process element–enhanced metal-poor stars. We use these ratios to investigate the Sm branching of s-process nucleosynthesis. The measurement was made by detailed study of Eu ii lines that are significantly affected by hyperfine splitting and isotope shifts in spectra of the carbon-rich very metal poor stars LP 625 4...

Lithium Isotopic Abundances in Metal-poor Halo Stars

Very high-quality spectra of 24 metal-poor halo dwarfs and subgiants have been acquired with ESO’s VLT/UVES for the purpose of determining Li isotopic abundances. The derived 1D, nonLTE Li abundances from the Li i 670.8 nm line reveal a pronounced dependence on metallicity but with negligible scatter around this trend. Very good agreement is found between the abundances from the Li i 670.8 nm l...

High-Resolution Spectroscopy of Extremely Metal-Poor Stars in the Least Evolved Galaxies: Ursa Major II and Coma Berenices

We present spectra of six metal-poor stars in two of the ultra-faint dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way (MW), Ursa Major II, and Coma Berenices obtained with the Keck/High Resolution Echelle Spectrometer (HIRES). These observations include the first high-resolution spectroscopic observations of extremely metal-poor ([Fe/H] < −3.0) stars not belonging to the MW halo field star population. We ...

Isotopic lithium abundances in five metal-poor disk stars

High resolution (R ' 110 000), very high S/N spectra centered on the 6707.8 Å Li i line have been obtained with the ESO Coudé Echelle Spectrometer for five, metal-poor (−0.8 < [Fe/H] < −0.6) disk stars in the turnoff region of the HR-diagram. The instrumental and stellar atmospheric line broadening have been determined from two unblended iron lines and used in a model atmosphere synthesis of th...

Abundances of heavy metals and lead isotopic ratios in subluminous B stars

Abundances of heavy metals and lead isotopic ratios in subluminous B stars Abstract. We present a detailed abundance analysis of high-resolution ultraviolet echelle spectra of five subdwarf B stars obtained with HST-STIS The goal of our observations was to test the hypothesis that pulsations in sdBs are correlated to the surface abundances of iron-group elements. We study two pulsators and thre...
